How to care for your silver jewellerydraft: text

Silver needs almost nothing. What causes damage is usually the cleaning, not the wear.

Every day

Storage

Dry and sealed. A small pouch that closes is better than an open dish, and considerably better than the bathroom cabinet. Pieces stored together scratch each other, so keep them apart.

Cleaning

  1. 1Lukewarm water and a drop of mild dish soap.
  2. 2A soft cloth or your fingers, never a scouring pad.
  3. 3Rinse and dry completely straight away. Leftover moisture is exactly what makes silver darken.
  4. 4If it has tarnished and should be bright: a silver polishing cloth, with a light hand.

Do not do this

Common questions

How do you clean silver jewellery at home?
Lukewarm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft cloth. Rinse and dry completely straight away. If the silver has tarnished, use a silver polishing cloth.
Can you clean silver with toothpaste?
No. Toothpaste contains abrasives and leaves fine scratches in the silver surface that cannot be removed.
